Serious Injury Motorcycle Crash

July 31, 2023

On Friday July 28th, 2023, at approximately 9:25 p.m. Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a motorcycle versus motorcycle injury crash on Challis Road west of Dorr Road in Genoa Township.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that two motorcycles were traveling westbound on Challis Road approaching Dorr Road. As the roadway turned from asphalt to dirt/gravel the first motorcycle identified as a 2021 Ducati Panigale began to slow. The Ducati was being operated by a 41-year-old male Howell resident. The second motorcycle, a 1981 Honda CN750 failed to slow and struck the first motorcycle. The operator of the Honda was identified as a 41-year-old male Detroit resident. Both motorcycle operators were transported to the U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS. The Detroit resident was in critical condition while the Howell resident was in serious condition but stable. Neither motorcycle operator was wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash while speed may be a factor. The road remained closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and clean up. Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Brighton Police Department, Livingston County EMS and Brighton Area Fire Department. This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
