Park Origins

Lutz County Park is located in Deerfield Township and was bequeathed to Livingston County in 2005 by Owen Lutz. Prior to his death, Owen Lutz laid out a one of a kind trail system with amazing views. Lutz County Park was opened to public recreation use in 2008.

Amenities

The property contains approximately 100 acres of passive recreation uses. A 1.3-mile trail system provides opportunities for users to experience high-quality natural areas, scenic views, and wildlife habitats. The park hosts a parking area, picnic tables, natural interpretive signage, and a restroom. The park was intended with nature in mind and careful planning has kept the property in its most rural and pastoral state.

Nature & Wildlife

Lutz County Park is adjacent to Oak Grove State Game Area, creating a larger contiguous expanse of acreage for the preservation of natural features, wildlife habitat and the South Branch of the Shiawassee River. The pond on the property is a perfect habitat for frogs, turtles and salamanders. Beautiful Red-Tail Hawks can often be seen flying overhead. In the Spring, the restored meadow is a wonderful are a to see a splash of wildflowers. Lutz County Park offers the perfect stopover location for migrating birds, especially Sandhill Cranes, which are often seen in the Spring and Fall.
