Body Art
Facilities in Livingston County that perform tattooing (including permanent cosmetics or microblading), body piercing (except for just piercing the ear), or branding must have a license from the State of Michigan and must be inspected annually by the Livingston County Environmental Health Division per Public Act 375.
Plan Review
Plan review is required for all newly constructed or extensively remodeled body art facilities. Examples of remodeling activities requiring plan review may include adding practitioner areas or sterilization rooms. Plans should be submitted at least 60 days prior to the start of construction. Plans will be reviewed in the order they are received. Livingston County will respond in writing to you within 30 business days upon receipt of your plan. Licensed Facilities
All body art procedures (tattoos, piercings, etc.) must be performed in a licensed facility. It is illegal to perform any body art procedure without a license (even if the procedure is done for free).
